Liberty Bell XIV

Mensans in Black - A weekend of Mystery, Murder, Mayhem and Music!

October 15-17, 2004

Dear Mensa Friends and Soon-to-be Mensa Friends, Liberty Bell XIV is well underway. Our enthusiastic new RG Chair Pete Stevens, and all the committee are busily planning a great RG. We all hope you will come out and enjoy the weekend's festivities with us. I'm Program Chair again this year and programs are looking really good. Below is a summary of what we have in mind so far. Check back here from time to time for changes and news. If you've been to a DVM Liberty Bell RG, you know how much fun we've always had, so come on back! Remember these past Liberty Bells: Alice in Wonderland theme, the Sci-Fi theme, the Monty Python theme, and the two M's Just Wanna Have Fun LBs? Well, many of the same people are on this committee, as well as some wonderful, creative Newbies. And, if you've never attended one of our terrific weekend-long festivities come on out and see what you've been missing! Do plan to be there. We'd love to see you. It's going to be the very greatest ever! Be sure to say hi when you see me there! Best to you all, Pat Horsley, RG Programs Chair P.S. Our Gamesmaster John Heiple will be running his terrific games room as usual! Preliminary Programs, as of August 2, 2004 -- Subject to possible change: Among programs that are pretty definite, here's what we have in mind: New! Our theme Murder Mystery "Mensans in Black" will be ongoing in segments throughout the RG. You will see bits and clues and skits and you will get to put the pieces together to solve the mystery. Our own very creative John Nicolazzo is planning stratagems to keep you guessing and cheerfully puzzled til one or more of you triumphantly solves the mystery. It promises to be tremendous fun. New! The Open Mike session will be an expansion of the great impromptu open mike we had toward the end of the Soiree musicians' sets last year. Polish up your kazoo serenades, your arias, your dramatic readings, your tuba solos, your comic acts, your bird calls, your best entertaining bits of whatever style to present to fellow M's Saturday evening. Guitarist and singer Steve Polsz will be our M.C. for the session. Plan ahead and bring your harmonica along, and sign up when you arrive at the RG. On Friday night, besides our usual great Pizza Night and the usual hugs and welcomes of friends as we wander into Hospitality: New! A structured Singles Meet and Greet that will allow singles to chat with each other and scope out the available great new people to meet New! A Portrait Class which allows participants, even those who have never held a paint brush, to learn techniques to produce a portrait. If you've ever wanted to try your hand at art, here's a great chance. On Saturday, besides our continental breakfast, our abundant, and this year, tremendously varied, real lunch in Hospitality, and our popular Dine-Around at local restaurants for dinner: New! A great presentation on How to Make Money with Your Website New! A Guitar Singalong New! The Other Trivia Contest: "Totally Unintellectual Trivia for Mensans Who Ruined Their Eyes From Sitting Too Close To The TV." New! "Shakespeare in Brief" - a truly condensed compendium of Shakespeare acted out for your delight! Some absolutely great returnees from previous years: The very popular Meditation Session with our own former DVMer, and now NNJMer, Gail Kowalski (Ordained as Swami Anukroshananda by the Temple of Kriya Yoga), who is a friend of DVM and a wonderful meditation teacher Elaine Brody's immensely popular Tough Trivia Contest Jeanne Zucker's crafty creative play in her Make Bad Art Workshop And several other sessions that are less definite so far: Possibly, a magic demo with prestidigitator Marc Lederman New! Possibly, a travelogue on China or Russia New! Possibly, a speaker on forensics science Possibly, a return speaker on Trenton Thunder baseball Possibly, a yoga session Possibly, the return of the Mary Kay cosmetics demo or Put on a Happy Face! Possibly hat and costume contest Many more surprises! And yet another major event: New! We also plan a great opportunity at Liberty Bell XIV to kick off the National Mensa election season by hearing our Mensa candidates tell us why we should vote for them and not for the other guys. All candidates, whether Nominated or Petition, for Regional or National office, are welcome to come speak. (If you are a candidate, contact me, Program Chair Pat Horsley, to sign up on our roster of Candidate Speakers.) M's, ask your tough questions and get a personal sense of what the candidates are really like. Candidates, come and get an opportunity to learn a bit about your constituency, and win our hearts. This is a very important election year for Region 2. We all know that we need to give some genuine attention to where our Region and Mensa are going, and to just what kind of people we want to represent our best interests in Mensa. Thus, "The Candidates Speak" at Liberty Bell XIV, a chance for all those opportunities to come alive.
