Random Notes

by Lesley Slepner

June, 2001

By the time you read this the election results will be in and the results will be posted on DVM's web page. I am sure that my worthy successor will need the support and involvement of as many members as possible. This group is only as vital as we, the members, make it.

It has been a most eventful four years. We have been successful with three RGs and the AG of 2000. The membership has grown in number and in the number of active members. We now have a web page (you're lookint at it!) and a group site on Yahoo! (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Delvalleymensa). Both sites provide members with the chance to learn more about other members and to make contact with the group.

We have had to find new ways to keep within the budget despite rising postal costs and printing costs for Proteus. The new format adopted in February of this year is the first change in format since I have been around the group. We have had changes in the names responsible for producing the newsletter but the primary source of content continues to be the membership. We hope to continue to refine and improve Proteus to better serve the membership. One especially nice item of news; Proteus has been nominated for a publication award in the calendar division.

The AG this year was a tremendous success and I would like to thank again the people who essentially put their lives on hold to prepare and present it. Gail Kowalski and Vic Mariani as Hospitality Chairs, Joy Gomez-Farrow as Registrar, Arlyn Bell as Treasurer, Art and Maralyn Gardner as Program Chairs, Dan Farrow as Games Master, Don Pendley as Public Relations Chair, and last but far from least Rose Lee Crutcher as Hotel Liaison. Without these people and the army of volunteers Ellen Bauer was able to find, we would not have been able to accomplish what we did.

The ExComm has functioned well over the years, keeping up with necessary decisions, devising and refining new programs and ideas and generally doing what they were elected to do. I thank them one and all for faithful service to DVM.

In my need to thank everyone who has made it possible for me to function as President I want to make it absolutely clear that none of what has been accomplished would ever have been possible without the love and support of my wonderful, understanding and infinitely patient husband, Steve.

Thanks to you all, it's been a great four years.
