by Lesley Slepner

January, 2001

Here we go again. One year past and another stretches before us full of opportunity, possibility and promise. What we choose to write on the pages of the new year depends largely on our own response to events over which we have no control. I intend to write as cheerfully as possible this year and I hope I don't need to use too much spin to do so.

Who will become the "Leader of the Free World" is still in doubt as of this writing but I have every hope that we know before this is posted. The only opportunity I had to influence the results was exercised in November. I have every faith that the nation will endure, we (as a group) are too stubborn to let it fail. Where we go from here depends on the ability of our elected officials to see past politics to the issues before them. I wish Wattsizname all the best.

Changing the focus of reflection, we (DVM) will likewise continue to move forward. We have a Nominating Committee and they have begun to formulate a slate of candidates for the upcoming election. They have some who have already agreed to run and are looking for additional names. Please give serious consideration to any request to run. If you cannot, with a clear conscience, accept nomination, suggest someone who might be persuaded. In any case, when the opportunity presents itself, VOTE. The apathy SIG wins every election.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU!!
