Herding Cats

I am sitting in the general admission seats at the Mann Music Center listening to some of my favorite works: Grieg's Piano Concerto in A min. and Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade. The temperature is in the 90s and the stars are beginning to announce their presence in a cloudless sky.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the out going Executive Committee members and all involved for their service, dedication and years of hard-work, making the past two years a benchmark. I also want to express my gratitude to the incoming members for committing their time and talents for the next two years. Finally, I wish to thank each and every one of you that voted. Thank you! This was the first election in many years in which there were more than one candidate competing for a given position. I personally found the experience to be exciting and stimulating. I believe that it was good for our group, getting its blood flowing, so to speak, giving the members something to talk about and stimulating ideas. I am delighted that you have entrusted the leadership of Delaware Valley Mensa to me and the new Executive Committee. There is much talent in the new Ex-Comm. We, as a collective unit, foresee great things for our future. On a final note, it is with a sadness of heart, mixed with an excitement for the future, that I pass on the following news. Proteus Editor, Ernie Mercer, is retiring his position after many years of service. I have served in this capacity (with a different organization) and I know how hard, tiring and thankless a job this is. We are grateful, Ernie. Speaking for everyone, we wish you well and a well-deserved rest. Stepping in to fill his shoes is Steve Slepner. He is a welcome addition to the Executive Committee, of which he is no stranger. With him he brings years of experience and service, both locally and at the Regional level. Thank you Steve for stepping forward and filling this void.
As the performance concludes, I need to do the same. Only with your help will we become a stronger group. This will be an interesting two years and I am looking forward to "herding cats".
