New Beginnings

I am sitting in the waiting room of a veterinarian’s office. The room has that sterile, antiseptic aroma that helps define a medical center. We are alone and the feeling of loneliness is crushing. It is a time to celebrate a life, a long good life, and the fact that he made a positive impact in the lives of those he touched. It is ironic to me, a belief I have held since high school, that we treat the animals in our lives with much more “humanity” than we treat humans. “I am selfish, I want him with me” cried Shirley McLain in “Steel Magnolia”, but such is life . . . and death. My time will come, but thank God it is not Smokey. It is a new beginning for Delaware Valley Mensa. The finest members of any Executive Committee – any, has spent the past two years serving you. Those who served but for their own reasons were unable to finish the term – thank you for your time. For those who are concluding the term, thank you for helping to make DVM one of the greatest Mensa groups in the country. For those continuing their service, thank you for your dedication. To the new members of your Ex-Comm., as your President and DVM’s representative, I welcome you to the governing body. Last but not least, I would like to thank those unsung heroes of the group, those who work behind the scene and out of the public’s eye, the Sub Group Coordinators, SIG Coordinators, Proctors, Calendar Coordinator, Gifted Children Coordinator, Legal Counsel and any one else I may have inadvertently not included - thank you for stepping forward and being a positive force for DVM. I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you. As members of DVM, I encourage each of you to contact me or any member of the new board, for guidance and direction. Let us know what you would like for us to do for you. Also, let us know when we are going in the wrong direction. We are here to serve you. Keep in mind; mark your calendar now, that DVM is having its annual picnic in August. This is a freebee to the members and their guests and our way of say thank you for being members. A few months later is our Regional Gathering, planned for October. This promises to be the “bestest” one ever. And next spring we are looking at conducting a Mini Regional Gathering. Refer to Proteus and our web site for an up to the minute listing of our current activities. It is our privilege to represent the members of Delaware Valley Mensa. Thank you for your continued confidence and support. The new Executive Committee and I pledge our best efforts to make Delaware Valley Mensa the best group it can be. |
