It is a chilly night. A cold front has just moved in.
The forecast called for occasional clouds but occasional became the norm.
I am taking a break and writing this under a canopy of stars and clouds.
I am in Cape May at a star watch looking through some of the most
sophisticated equipment that amateurs can buy. The planets, galaxies and
nebulas, as seen through these telescopes are not as dramatic as the
pictures one sees in books, but I am seeing them live - a much more
rewarding and life affirming experience.
We here in DVMland are poised for a new beginning. Ballots
are arriving at Election Headquarters and soon we will know who will
represent you for the next two years. If you have not voted, do so now.
Or come to the Election Party (see calendar) and hand your ballot
directly to the chairperson. For the first time in many elections, there
are more people running than there are slots to be filled. We are all
waiting to see what the final results will be and one can almost feel the
electricity and tension in the air. Oh, the Republicans and the
Democratic National Conventions have nothing on us.
The calendar has more activities and a wider variety of
activities than ever before. And attendance is up as well. If there is
something you like to do and it is not on the calendar, schedule the
function and get it on the calendar. Only you know what you would like
to be doing and you might be pleasantly surprised as to how many others
may enjoy do it as well.
The Executive Committee is busy wrapping up the work of the
past two years and preparing to turn things over to the new
representatives. Home office has some contests scheduled in which we
will be participating. The Regional Gathering is taking shape and
appears to be even better than the one last fall. Even as we wait for
the new representatives to take charge, programs are in place and life is
moving forward.
And so, once again, I can only encourage you to cast your
ballet and voice your opinion as to the direction Delaware Valley Mensa
will go. It has been a good two years, and with your blessings, support
and vote, the next two years will be even better.
Hope all is well in your little corner of the world.
