2003
The eighteenth in a series of twenty-four

by Peter J. Stevens

January, 2003

YO! I have a present for you. It is wrapped in a box but there are three hundred, sixty-five smaller presents within the box. All the boxes contain the same elements. However, some will be warmer than others and some will be cooler than other. Some, when opened, will contain pain and some will contain joy and happiness. Some will contain both.

All will be filled with surprises, no two the same although many will be similar. Once each box is opened, it will slowly dissolve and once gone, will never be available again. However, the lessons learned are available for the rest of your life.

What you do with each is up to you. More importantly, what you do with each will define who you are and provide direction and meaning to your life.

Happy New Year from 2002.

The latest news centers on the spring election. Don Baldino, Steve Kaess and Nancy Rauch make up the Nominating Committee. They are looking to fill seven Member at Large, one Treasurer, and one President positions. If you are interested in being considered for any of these offices, please contact one of these people and make your intentions known. See the committee's write up else where in this publication.

The Executive Committee is about to create an election Committee. It is their responsibility to validate the election once all the ballots are received. If you wish to confirm the election results (a couple hours' commitment within a party atmosphere), please contact me.

The board is working very hard on many fronts to continue the current trend of generating more interest at the grass roots level. More activities with greater diversity have been scheduled. More subgroups and SIGS are scheduling functions, some we have not seen in quite some time. Although attendance varies, over all, attendance is up across the board and new faces are being seen on a regular basis. Again, I encourage you, if there is an activity that you would like to explore, anything from bowling to an open house, from miniature golf to visiting a museum, please feel free to schedule it. Contact our Calendar Coordinator and put it on the calendar. In addition, the Executive Committee may even be willing to cover the costs.

The past year and a half has been a period of major change for Delaware Valley Mensa. I am pleased with the direction DVM is headed. I think that as you read Proteus, mark your calendar of Mensa activities, and observe the unity and forward thinking of the Executive Committee, you will see the results of these changes. No change is easy; there is always pain involved. You can not make an omelet without breaking an egg. However, DVM is gaining momentum and I am sure you will like and enjoy the results. I hope to see you at many of the functions.
